NPR reports on the end of the Talking Taxi program back in 2003(ish). New Yorkers are so damn jaded. I remember how much I thought it was cool to hear Elmo remind me to buckle up. Unfortunately, I never rode an Eartha cab, but I certainly wouldn’t mind hearing her purr all night.
